By the Pupils for the Pupils: Designing an Autism Friendly School

After trialling a specially designed school ‘jigsaw kit’, four design workshops were carried out with secondary school aged pupils with autism who imparted their likes, dislikes and what was most important to them within the school environment. This facilitated comparison with current autism-friendly guidelines and provided a valuable insight into the mind of the secondary pupil with autism. Findings were subsequently included in the Northern Ireland Education Authorities publication Autism Specific Class Provision: a guideline for mainstream schools
