Studied in Australia – Pippa Smith
Where are they now?
When I was in my second year studying my BSc in Architecture, I applied for the study abroad programme at The University of Newcastle in Australia. I had always loved travelling, especially to explore particular sites of architectural interest and knew this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
I was lucky enough to have brilliant tutors at Queen’s, who helped make this a possibility for me and aligned all of my modules on the curriculum so I could study my third year abroad. The course opened my eyes to new methods of learning and teaching, as well as many different methods of construction and design theories.
Two years on and I am now working in a marketing and design agency in London. My Australian partner, Zac (who I met in my third year) returned to the UK with me and secured a job working as a Project Manager for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We would have never had the opportunities and skills we have now without the help of the wonderful staff at Queens, who made all of this possible.
We are both planning to return to Australia to make a permanent life there together once the travel restrictions are lifted and hope to both secure careers within the build and design industry in Sydney.
