BIM-based collaboration in construction

Hao Wang

When compared with other industries, the construction industry often delivers complex, and large projects in which many factors contribute to the need for collaboration among different project parties. These factors include diversity of knowledge background, frequently changing requirements from clients and staff turnover. Thus, it is imperative to provide a collaborative environment within construction projects. BIM as an information-integrated and object-oriented tool has been applied to overcome increasingly complex situations in the construction industry. In addition, BIM can make data and information sharing easier when compared to traditional 3D CAD and other Information Communication Technology. Following researches should explore how to establish a BIM-based platform to facilitate the collaboration in construction projects.
