Reader and Head of Architecture
Gary A. Boyd is Head of Architecture at Queen’s. He trained at Strathclyde University, Glasgow and was in practice before undertaking a PhD and lectureship at University College, Dublin. Senior Lecturer in architecture at University College, Cork he moved to Queen’s University, Belfast in 2013. He was joint commissioner and curator for Infra-Éireann, the Irish pavilion at the 2014 Venice biennale and again for Making Ireland Modern which toured as part of the Irish Arts Council’s celebration of the centenary of 1916.
A member of the influential GLAS architectural collective in Glasgow (active between 2001 and 2004), he is the author and editor of a number of essays, articles and books including Ordnance: War + Architecture & Space and Infra-Éireann: Infrastructure and the Architectures of Modernity in Ireland.
